Will taking an SSRI affect the results of an OAT test? a current client was wondering if she needed to stop with zoloft to ensure testing would be accurate.

Will taking an SSRI affect the results of an OAT test? a current client was wondering if she needed to stop with zoloft to ensure testing would be accurate when testing for her son.

An SSRI might affect the serotonin metabolite (5-HIAA) under the tryptophan neurotransmitter section. However, this is only one marker out of many that you can accommodate for knowing a person is on an SSRI. I absolutely would not have them stop their medication just of the OAT.Sincerely,
