I have heard some suggest that colonics could be a potential source of SIBO. I understand most children are likely not using this therapy, but wondering if you have any thoughts on that issue.
Why is SIBO so common now when it wasn’t really discussed much until recently? What drives the bacteria into the small intestine?
I think you bring up an excellent point about colonics. I have only had a few kids do colonics without issue, but my partner had a patient who did a colonic and it definitely lead to what was suspected as SIBO. I think SIBO has been around for quite sometime. It is only recently being given more attention. I have a paper taking about SIBO back in the 70s. I read a story about the infamous bowel issues of Adolf Hitler who likely suffered from SIBO.
