    Dr. Woeller,
My local lab does lipoprotein associated PLA2 testing as a marker for strokes. I’ve been using it as a biomarker but to your knowledge is it equivalent to the plain PLA2 you lectured about?
    Thanks

actually the Alzheimer’s article you posted was on cytosolic PLA2. So I wonder where Lp PLA2 falls into line here. Are they just different names based on location of where they are made in the cell (cytosolic vs lipoprotein assoc) or the same thing? Are am I looking at two different things all together?

From my understanding the PLA2 test is looking at total PLA2 and not differentiating exactly where in the cell it is coming from. What is known is elevated PLA2 is indicating inflammatory cascade production within the cell.

        Dr. Hartman,
Looking around online there are a lot of lab services offering this test. From what I can see it is the same thing that Great Plains offers. Looks like what you are using is equivalent.
