GSE

I am getting some questions concerning GSE with contamination and that it should not be taken internally. Any thoughts on this? I have not had any issues with patient who are already on the GSE, but for some reason this week I have had a couple of families with concerns. Did I miss some news release against GSE?

My wife who is a herbalist has told me that it contaminated with something like triclosan and that is how it gets the antimicrobial activity. HOWEVER, I haven’t been able to find anything about this, I’ve questioned the IFM and others in the field and no one in the MD or Functional Med community has been able to verify this. So I’m not sure if its just something anecdotally or there is actually data on it. I’d love to have hard data and not just ‘expert opinion” on this one.

I don’t have any hard data either. I have a few anedoctal reports on this too in the past, but nothing of late. I do know that it can interfere with liver enzymes metabolism of certain drugs.
