Hi, I have done an OAT on a nonverbal 5-year-old boy 50lbs. He has low HVA and Low 5HIAA
would you suspect a BH4 problem even though Phenyllactic acid and Phenylpruvic acid are not elevated ? He has a lot of anxiety and insomnia social phobia.
I was going to add in a little B6 and Magnesium. Do you prefer the iMgT powder over other forms? do you stat at 1/2 tsp /day?

Also, should I do a trial of BH4? thanks Alison

        Alison,
I like the iMagT or the NeuroMag T from New Beginnings. However, there are other companies carrying the Magnesium L-Threonate which is good. With the iMagT I start with 1/2 teaspoon twice daily. If they are sensitive to supplements than a 1/4 teaspoon twice daily is a good starting dose.

The Low HVA and 5-HIAA could definitely be a need for BH4. The phenyllactic and phenylpyruvic are rarely elevated, but the benefit from BH4 supplementation anyway is still helpful.

        Sincerely,
        Dr. Woeller
