You’ve mentioned several times using topical glutathione and mentioned Kirkland labs. What is your experience with the bioavailability of topical glutathione? Is that based on your clinical experience or are you aware of any data on its bioavailability?

Also topical EDTA? I see some products out there including powders for baths but I’m unaware of how bioavailable they are, could you speak to this? I would include Zeolyte for baths in this.

    Thanks

      Dr. Hartman,
I have not used topical EDTA, primarily because I didn’t see any significant findings with transdermal DMPS from many years back. I followed that protocol of transdermal DMPS for 2 years with disappointing results. Therefore, when the transdermal DMSA and EDTA came out I just used other things, i.e. oral DMSA instead. Because of the sensitive nature of spectrum kids I have kept transdermal chelators on my list of possibilities for special circumstances, i.e. kids how absolutely cannot take things in any other forms, but I haven’t found that I have needed to use them to any significant degree.

Glutathione could also be viewed on that list too. I always preferred intravenous glutathione, but not practical for many families. Oral capsules just seem to spike yeast problems. I like the liposomal glutathione, but hard in some kids with oral texture issues or taste issues. Therefore, the transdermal glutathione is the next best thing.

Bioavailabilty data on transdermal glutatione I haven’t researched in quite some time, so at this point it is more clinical experience.

Overall, my preference though for the kids is liposomal if it can be done.
