      Hello Dr. Woeller,

Client 27 y.o. male on the ASD. Experiences recurring mouth ulcers. Mother has provided images that I’ve attached. Client is currently on a GF/CF diet, taking nyastatin for yeast and is still experiencing recurring mouth ulcers (mother states for years). We are working on putting nutritional supplements in place and addressing digestive health. I’ve looked into apthae and understand that mouth ulcers can result from food sensitivities/allergies, etc. Is it possible it’s viral as well? This client does test with low immunoglobulins.

I appreciate your expertise with this.

      Best and Happy Holidays,
      Lynn

        Lynn,
The files were too big to upload.

However, mouth ulcers can come from many sources. Food sensitivity is one of them. Also, iron, zinc and b-vitamin deficiencies can lead to them as well. Toothpaste irritation can be a cause too.

Here is a list of possible causes – http://www.medic8.com/healthguide/mouthulcers/the-causes.html

If nothing seems obvious or is not resolving the best solution is to see an ENT specialist. Also, if they haven’t seen a dentist that is another consult worth having too.

        Hi Dr. Woeller,

My son too has had mouth sores when he comes down w/ a bug. Could it be low lysine? On his amino acid plasma results, I believe his lysine was in the 25th percentile. Thank you.

          Saul,
Another consideration is zinc deficiency too – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/870981
