Miralax and Natural Calm

Two quick questions…Same patient, but I have seen this with others too…

1. Miralax-Can it make the child more hyper? More Stemming Behaviors? Child after being given prescription Miralax for impactation is acting out more than before, even when he was severely constipated.

2. Natural Calm-I’ve had a couple of parents say that after they give this to the child they don’t calm down…Instead they get hyped up or have more “giggling” episodes….This patient has a pending OAT which I suspect Candida, but this is the second patient that I have whose parents say that Natural Calm did not “calm” them down.

1 – yes, it can. I have seen this on occasion too.
2 – Natural Calm have various flavorings, i.e. Orange, Raspberry, Lemon. There is an unflavored version too. See which ones the parents are using. It’s likely a flavoring intolerance which indicates a phenol sensitivity.

Does anyone suspect a mechanism for Miralax stemming or other behaviors?

Miralax has polyethylene glycol which can produce oxalates. This can lead to stimming.
