      Hello Dr. Woeller,

I have a client showing high seretonin levels. The parents report other than Keppra, there is no other supplementation. (Nearly all of my clients are on Keppra and does not appear to affect seretonin levels). No 5-htp, no tryptophan, no SSRIs. Have you seen this and what is your professional opinion? HVA/VMA normal to low normal. No presence of clostridia but severe arabinose and extremely elevated oxalates.

      Regards,
      Lynn

        Lynn,
Slightly high values are most likely from serotonin foods such as eggplant, avocado, pineapple, tomato, bananas, plums and walnuts.

Very high levels can be linked to Carcinoid Syndrome – https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/carcinoid-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20370666. I have personally never seen carcinoid syndrome.

        Dr. Woeller
