    Dr Woeller,

My son has definite problems with glutamate. He is on a CF,GF,SF,low oxalate and I try to give as little glutamate via food as possible using only fresh produce. Now you mention giving Ca if the child gets no milk. Ca helps glutamate get into the nerve cells and I therefore stopped giving Ca/Mg chewable with the meals for the oxalates, Infact I don’t supplement for Ca anymore. What would you advice. With Ca his behavior is very active, aggressive and loud. Without Ca this is less so even though he can still be this way because of his PANS.

    Thanks Gaby

      Gaby,
Your son may be getting enough calcium through his food. If you are not seeing eye-poking or hard rubbing behavior I personally wouldn’t worry about it, particularly if calcium supplementation causes problems.
