Dear Dr Woeller,
I have an 11 year old kid with ASD who is very aggressive with his parents. He has behavioral interventions and is taking risperidone. The aggression decreased for 3 months but has returned despite the medications. He has no labs done at the moment. What are your thought about how to manage him? Do you think GABA would help?
Thank you
Tippy
Tippy,
GABA is a good start. You may need to use a range of dosing to get a clinical effect, i.e., 1000mg to 3000mg+ daily.
But, what really needs to happen is some investigation into why he is aggressive. Is it a gut problem? Situational – happening at school. Is he potentially in pain?
